Stratasys 3-D printing supports German mission to Mars

Stratasys Ltd., Eden Prairie, Minn., a 3-D printing and additive manufacturing (AM) systems company, has announced that the German Aerospace Centre is using Stratasys FDM 3-D printing for the production of a fully working prototype of TransRoPorter (TRP).

TRP, built at the Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics in Germany, is an exploration robot designed for unmanned flights to Mars and set for launch in four to five years. Using a Stratasys Fortus 900mc Production 3-D printer, the research team 3-D-printed a working prototype. This enables the team to test the design and functionality of the robot under simulated extreme conditions ahead of time.
