Three metals companies win Kentucky Association of Manufacturers Awards

The Kentucky Association of Manufacturers has announced the winners of its 2023 Manufacturer of the Year and Manufacturing Employee of the Year Awards. These awards recognize companies that advance manufacturing and industry in Kentucky; contribute to the quality of life in the state; and display innovation in products, production methods, or services.

Skilcraft, a provider of complex sheet metal fabricating based in Burlington, received the small Manufacturer of the Year Award. Its Organizational Development Director Dean McKay is the chair of the Northern Kentucky Workforce Investment Board, and the company is helping to grow the region’s workforce by introducing young people to manufacturing.

Shelbyville-based voestalpine Roll Forming Corp. (RFC) won the mid-size Manufacturer of the Year Award. The company supplies custom roll-formed metal components to the aerospace, construction, material handling, office furniture, solar, and transportation markets. In 2019, RFC launched TogetherWeCare, an employee-driven initiative that allows employees to donate and support the community in which they work and live, while on company time.

RFC employee Margo Williams won the Manufacturing Employee of the Year Award. She leads the TogetherWeCare philanthropic program, serves as a mentor, and is active with Safe Haven Baby Box, which has a mission to prevent illegal abandonment of newborns.

Novelis, a global producer of flat-rolled aluminum products and a recycler of aluminum with Kentucky operating sites in Berea, Guthrie, and Russellville, received the large Manufacturer of the Year Award. As part of the Novelis Neighbor program, the Guthrie team supports the local school system with supplies and leads efforts for STEM implementation, health care, and technology.
