TSTC partners with Komatsu for job training grant

Texas Workforce Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez spoke at Texas State Technical College as Komatsu presented a $131,000 workforce grant.

Texas State Technical College, Marshall, has partnered with Komatsu Mining Corp. in Longview, Texas, to train 60 workers using a $131,404 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.

Julian Alvarez, the Texas workforce commissioner representing labor, presented the check to officials from TSTC and Komatsu.

The training, designed to meet Komatsu’s needs, will be provided by TSTC instructors. Trainees will include data terminal operators, fabrication machine operators, and quality control inspectors.

“Workforce development is by far the No. 1 critical issue, not just here in Texas, but all over the country,” said Wayne Mansfield, president/CEO of the Longview Economic Development Corp. “Establishing the foundation for workforce here is important to the continued success of Longview, Gregg County, and East Texas.”

Overall, the grant will have a $3.9 million impact on eastern Texas.
