UniCarriers welcomes U.S. senator

Marengo, Ill.-based forklift manufacturer UniCarriers Americas (UCA) welcomed Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., on Aug. 21. Durbin toured the facility, met with senior staff, and gave a companywide address followed by a town hall meeting.

The company caught Durbin’s attention in June, when UCA President James J. Radous III visited legislators in Washington to discuss the critical importance of safety in the workplace, the impact forklifts have on commerce, and the creation of more Illinois jobs. Radous pointed out that while many manufacturers are replacing workers with robots, UCA has increased its automation capabilities by 50 percent while doubling its number of employees from about 300 to 600 over the past five years.
