Union Metal gets new owners in Ohio

Canton, Ohio-based Union Metal has been acquired by New York City-based American Industrial Acquisition Corp. and re-established as Union Metal Industries Corp. The company hopes to hire 250 workers into full-time positions.

Union Metal Industries Corp. makes steel and aluminum poles for street and ornamental lighting, traffic signals, electric power transmission, telecommunications, and signs.

In December the former owners announced plans to close the operation and eliminate 340 jobs, after 200 employees had already been laid off.
