US Wind announces plans for new steel fabrication facility
US Wind Inc., a Maryland-based offshore wind farm developer and subsidiary of Italian renewable energy firm Renexia SpA, has announced plans for a new steel fabrication facility called Sparrows Point Steel in the Baltimore area.
The 90-acre waterfront location at Tradepoint Atlantic is the former home of Bethlehem Steel and will be dedicated to the creation of offshore wind components, such as nacelle, towers, blades, and foundations.
The offshore manufacturing hub will initially support an eventual expansion of wind turbines along the coast of Ocean City, Md. When the facility is fully operational, it will support more than 500 jobs and generate more than $1 billion in labor income over 20 years, the company reports.
