OMAX uses government grant to develop micromachining abrasive waterjet

OMAX® Corp., Kent, Wash., a manufacturer of computer-controlled abrasive waterjet systems, has developed what it says is the most precise micromachining abrasive waterjet available with the assistance of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF).

The NSF SBIR program seeks to catalyze private sector commercialization of technological innovations. The funding helped accelerate the manufacturer’s efforts in the development of the MicroMAX® JetMachining® center, which can cut extremely small parts from titanium carbon fiber, stainless steel, graphite, glass, copper, and many other materials with no change to the material integrity and a positioning accuracy of 15 microns.

Earlier in 2017, the company received the Tibbetts Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for its outstanding technological innovation in the area of micro abrasive waterjet technology.
