Metal spinning machines produce aircraft engine lip skins

MJC Eng. has developed 737MAX and 777X metal spinning machines for producing lip skins for aircraft engine housings. The machines use Siemens CNC and robotic handling technology, as well as a proprietary servo pump-controlled Green Power™ hydraulic power unit.

The units are used to spin form production-run components out-of-round by 8-1/2 to 9 in. in aluminum alloy blanks measuring up to 270 in. dia. and 5/8 in. thick. They hold tight tolerances that are verified by thermo-imaging cameras and fed back by the CNC for accuracy tracking. A heating torch is integrated for in-process adjustments.
