Amada Weld Tech adds picosecond black marking for medical devices

Amada Weld Tech Inc. offers black, corrosion-resistant marking capability for the medical device manufacturing industry. It is generated using a picosecond laser. The ultrashort pulse durations of the picosecond laser allow it to impart energy to a material surface with almost no thermal effect.

The mark is an extremely high-contrast periodic nanostructure with antireflective properties that make it appear deep black against its surroundings. Since it is restructured surface material rather than an oxide layer, the mark resists bacterial growth, passivation, corrosion, and autoclaving.
