Stainless steel withstands temperatures to 1,562 degrees F

Ugitech has added UGI® 4550 to its line of austenitic, heat-resistant stainless steel grades. The material is suitable for such applications as steam lines, super-heater tubes, and exhaust systems in reciprocating engines and gas turbines. The addition of niobium allows the finished steel grades to withstand temperatures from 797 to 1,562 degrees F.

The material inhibits the formation of chromium carbide precipitates at the grain boundaries and thus stops intergranular corrosion. It is suitable for parts that cannot be treated after welding, such as expansion joints and equipment for chemical processing at high temperatures. It can be formed at room temperature and resists hot cracking after welding.

The material resists temperature-dependent deformation and atmospheric corrosion and oxidation at high temperatures.
