Plasma beveling system uses direct-drive technology

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products has introduced the DMX automated plasma beveler, a compact system that cuts a full range of weld preparations, including V, Y, X, and K bevels, with cut angles up to 45 degrees on materials nearly 2 in. thick.

The system is complemented by the release of the company’s new SmartBevel™ Technology for programming and accurate bevel cutting with minimal operator intervention.

Direct-drive motors provide 5-axis motion to reduce complexity, eliminate the need for breakaway crash protection, and deliver accurate positioning. The “compliant motion” lets the beveler absorb and detect a torch crash without any added components, as well as automatically reset after a collision without the operator touching the torch or climbing on the cutting table to do so.
