Encoder-based positioning added to safety control system

Rockford Systems has introduced the second generation of its SSC1500 control system for hydraulic presses (FTL072) and press brakes (FTL073). It has been upgraded with encoder-based positioning technology, which allows the press operator to set the stop positions for the ram from an LCD keypad, eliminating manual limit switch adjustment.

The incremental rotary encoder provides motion-related data and helps ensure exact positioning of the ram. An external monitoring function assesses the state of the relays on every stroke to prevent potential failure. This feature is enabled when interfacing external relays for the down circuit.
