Flying shear cuts to length while running at constant speed

Braner/Loopco has developed a flying shear with capacity to shear 0.63-in. high-strength, hot-rolled coil with mechanical properties from 189,000 PSI for a coil processing center.

Shearing on-the-fly allows cut-to-length while running at a nonstop, constant speed and eliminates start-stop strip-measuring feed rolls and the associated looping pit. The shear employs AC servo drive technology to help achieve cut length accuracy, the company reports.
