Bernard celebrates 75th anniversary

Bernard, Beecher, Ill., is marking its 75th anniversary. The company began in a storefront on the southeast side of Chicago, and R&D efforts soon led to its perfecting the Dual Shield welding process in 1954—now known as FCAW. During the 1960s, the company introduced its Bernard GMAW gun and wire feeder.

The company was family-owned and -operated until 1970 when Dover Corp. purchased it. In 2001, Illinois Tool Works (ITW) purchased Bernard, which is currently a division of Miller Electric Mfg. LLC. Miller is wholly owned by ITW.

Today, the company manufactures semiautomatic GMAW and FCAW guns, consumables, accessories, and manual arc products.
