Boilermakers seek experienced welders

The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Kansas City, Kan., has announced that its Construction Division has an increasing need for experienced welders nationwide as a result of expanded project opportunities.

Boilermakers in this division are engaged in constructing, maintaining, and repairing coal-fired, natural gas-fired, concentrated solar, and nuclear power plants; oil refineries; steel mills; and pulp and paper mills.

"While we are looking for experienced welders, each recruit will be required to meet our union's qualifications and complete safety training courses,” said Roger Erickson, administrator for Mobilization, Optimization, Stabilization, and Training (MOST), the training and safety arm of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. “Programs developed through MOST are designed to elevate trade skills and promote the highest levels of safety on the job site."

Since its inception more than 25 years ago, MOST has developed programs that have led to a 90 percent reduction in OSHA-recordable injuries, a 95 percent reduction in costs associated with welder certification, and a 90 percent reduction in job site injuries.
