ESAB announces winners of first Weld It Forward contest

Pickens Technical College was selected as the winning postsecondary school in ESAB’s Weld It Forward school contest for fabricating a wheelchair ramp for fellow welding student Noah Williams, who was paralyzed in a car accident.

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products has announced that Maple Mountain High School in Spanish Fork, Utah, and Pickens Technical College in Aurora, Colo., are the grand prize winners of its inaugural Weld It Forward student contest.

Each school will receive a $20,000 equipment and filler metal package. Every student member of the winning team will receive a $250 cash prize and a SENTINEL™ A50 autodarkening helmet, while student members on teams from the four semifinalist schools will receive a SENTINEL helmet.

Students from Maple Mountain High School fabricated three tables that were donated to families in Mexico by team members on a humanitarian trip in December. Students from Pickens Technical College fabricated a wheelchair ramp for fellow welding student Noah Williams, who was paralyzed in a car accident last year but is back in the shop, pursuing a welding-related career.
