Registration open for student welding competition Oct. 5-7

Technical college students are invited to take part in a student welding competition at the Wisconsin Manufacturing and Technology Show, to be held Oct. 5-7, 2021, at the Exposition Center at Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, Wis.

In the Welding Pavilion Student Competition, sponsored by Hastings Air Energy Control Inc., students will complete the following welds:

  • A horizontal 3/16-in. fillet weld on 10-ga. carbon steel, plus a vertical-down 3/16-in. fillet weld on 10-ga. carbon steel
  • A horizontal ¼-in. fillet weld on ¼-in. carbon steel, plus a vertical-up ¼-in. fillet weld on ¼-in. carbon steel.

The judges are Adam Thomas, group manager, Caterpillar; Bryan Hackbarth, global manager weld engineering, Komatsu Surface Mining; and Jeff Noruk, president, Servo-Robot Corp.

The Welding Pavilion stations will highlight emerging welding technologies, safety best practices related to new fume removal technologies, and proper methods of ventilation. All students will have access to hiring managers present at the show and are eligible for scholarships and prizes.
