Portable welding tool fits in backpack

The Tactical Welder portable welding tool from UltraTech is powered by a 528-Wh lithium-ion battery pack and 10-amp charger. An electronic battery management system controls charging and discharging functions. The 300-amp, industrial-grade welding gun has thumbwheel wire feed speed control and an integrated triggered gas valve for GMAW and FCAW of aluminum, steel, and stainless metals.

All components are designed to be stored, carried, and operated while wearing the included backpack/shoulder bag. The shoulder strap allows the pack to be worn as a tool bag with a holster for the spool gun and tools. This allows for one-handed welding operations while wearing the pack.

According to the company, the tool can produce welds that meet AWS D1.1 structural steel requirements based on face bend and root bend tests. It can be used in remote or confined spaces where there is no source of power, or in work areas too small for tanks, cables, and standard-sized welding machines.

The system includes a high-current contactor for cold-tip operation.
