Tool protects material from oxidation during welding

COB Industries offers the Weld Trailing Shield®, which can be added to a GTAW torch before beginning a pipe weld. The lightweight tool is connected to an argon gas source, and when the weld is started, it has extra argon flooding to the sides of the weld and covering the HAZ adjacent to the weld. As the welding torch is moved forward, because of the length of the tool, the weld remains under an argon gas shield until the welded metal has cooled below its oxidation temperature.

In manual welding, the tool drags easily along the surface being welded. It carries the welding torch at 90 degrees to the weld. The tool comes with a variable-diameter connector so that it can fit any size of GTAW torch for manual or mechanized welding. It can be used with any tube and pipe diameter from 0.67 in. and up. It also is manufactured in flat format for sheet metal welding.
