Tungsten electrodes are free from thoria

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® has developed MultiStrike® tungsten electrodes that are free from the potentially harmful thoria. They can be used for welding aluminum with the AC process, as well as steels and alloys with the DC process.

Available in the U.S. from Cob Industries, the electrodes contain a mix of nonradioactive rare-earth elements, which lower the working temperature of the tungsten to help contribute to longer electrode life and 10 times higher arc striking capacity, the company reports.
