Custom fabricator takes on new jobs with in-house plasma cutting

Situation
Brenseke Welding, Deer Park, N.Y., is an expansion of the family-owned Brenseke Welding & Fabricating. Mike Brenseke and George Brenseke Jr. have built upon the knowledge gained from watching the family business thrive and adding in their own artistic flair. Brenseke Welding takes a customized approach to satisfying customers’ metal fabrication needs using bending, welding, shearing, and plasma cutting.
As business flourished, the company began outsourcing some of its metal cutting operations, but the suppliers were having trouble meeting the required lead times, so the company decided to expand its in-house capabilities.
Resolution
Company staff attended FABTECH® 2017 to explore waterjet cutting and CNC plasma cutting systems and determine which process would be the best choice. After talking to all exhibitors offering those processes, the staff members determined plasma was the better fit.
The Stars and Stripes across the back of the Kano HD CNC plasma cutting machine, offered by Park Industries, caught Mike Brenseke’s eye. Upon closer analysis, he zeroed in on the TracKlean self-cleaning table. Although his initial search was for a smaller table to fit the company’s small shop space, he chose a 6- by 12-ft. table. The larger cutting area has allowed the company to leave remnants on the table, eliminating the need to load and unload full sheets for small jobs.
Max Steck, machine operator, said, “The ease of operation is excellent. We are able to take on jobs that we had to turn down previously, and a highly skilled technical operator is not required.”
“The capabilities of the Kano have given us the confidence to take on a more diverse range of jobs than we would have before,” explained Mike Brenseke. “The easy communication we have with tech support when any issues arise makes operating our Kano stress-free so we can focus on building our business.”
Brenseke Welding continues to produce creative projects, now at a higher volume and with increased efficiency.
