FossiLabs LLC has announced the launch of fused filament fabrication 3D-printed porous PEEK bonelike structures within medical implants.

This technology makes it possible to 3D-print solid or defined porous structures, as opposed to products with surface porosity or windows within defined layers. The increased surface area and the full porosity encourage new bone on-growth and in-growth of the implant, leading to greater integration strength, the company reports.

Proprietary hardware and software help identify solid and controlled bonelike macroporosity regions within existing client models, primarily spacers and cages for the spine. Desired bone growth areas can be defined and 3D-printed in PEEK.
