The Series 300 DED printer is designed to print structures nearly 20 ft. long.

Sciaky Inc. has received an order to custom-build one of its Series 300 EBAM (Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing) systems for Turkish Aerospace Industries. The high-deposition DED (directed energy deposition) printer is designed to print titanium structures nearly 20 ft. long.

According to Chicago-based Sciaky, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries Inc., the custom machine will be the largest EB-style printer in the world.

Its work envelope measures 6 m long by 2 m wide by 1.8 m high. Deposition rates exceed 20 kg of metal per hour for many metal alloys. A unique feature of the printer is that the user will be able to quickly switch over to performing EM-welding jobs. The customer intends to occasionally use the machine for applications that require welding and 3D printing.
