MakerBot’s Method X workstation brings ABS 3D printing to manufacturing

MakerBot, a subsidiary of Stratasys Ltd., has launched Method X, a manufacturing workstation that uses real acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) material, a 100-degrees-C chamber, and Stratasys SR-30 soluble supports to produce complex, durable parts.
According to the company, the workstation can print real ABS that can withstand up to 15-degrees-C higher temperatures, is up to 26 percent more rigid, and is up to 12 percent stronger than modified ABS formulations used on other desktop 3D printers. Real ABS parts printed on the workstation have no warping or cracking, the manufacturer states.
The workstation has 21 onboard sensors that help users monitor, enhance, and print their projects, including RFID chips, temperature sensing, humidity control, and material detection. It provides a seamless CAD-to-part work flow, with SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion 360, and Inventor plug-ins and support for more than 30 types of CAD files.
