New PBF 3D printer from Prima features lasers with different wavelengths

The Print Genius 150 Double Wavelength is the latest addition to Prima Additive’s line of powder bed fusion 3D printers.

According to the manufacturer, the laser setup is the most distinctive feature of the unit. It’s equipped with a 300-W infrared laser and a 200-W green laser. This facilitates use of the best laser for a particular material, in terms of laser-radiation absorption. For instance, the user could choose IR radiation for steel alloys, titanium, nickel, and chromium-cobalt, and green radiation for pure copper, aluminum, and other highly reflective materials.

The printer’s build volume is 150 mm in dia. by 160 mm high. Options include a system that adjusts beam focus based on the application, a preheating system that heats (to 300 degrees C) the powder bed surface from above and below, a high-speed coaxial pyrometer to control the temperature in real time, and two cameras that monitor the process and powder bed.

All process parameters, such as laser power, layer thickness, and scanner speed, can be set in real time during the job.
