Plastic 3D printer builder Ultimaker offers kit for metal printing

Ultimaker has supplemented its line of filament-style, open-material 3D printers for building plastic parts with a kit designed to let users 3D-print metal parts. Called the Metal Expansion Kit, it was developed in collaboration with industry partners to be compatible with Ultimaker’s S5 printer.

The kit includes BASF’s Forward AM Ultrafuse 17-4 PH filament and Ultrafuse support layer filament (the latter is only available in Europe); packaging for green parts; Ultimaker Print Core CC 0.4 and DD 0.4 printheads (the latter is only available in Europe); Magigoo Pro Metal adhesive; Cura software with metal-optimized slicing capabilities; and access to exclusive content at the printer manufacturer’s online printing academy.

The Metal Expansion Kit is scheduled to be available in July.
