Power distributor Mountrail-Williams Electric Cooperative (MWEC) recently opened its new headquarters in Williston, N.D., featuring an expansive curtainwall from Tubelite, an architectural aluminum products manufacturer based in Walker, Mich.
The four-story, 85,000-sq.-ft. building was designed by JLG Architects to achieve a LEED® Gold certification with an emphasis on highlighting the efficient use of electricity.
For the building’s defining feature, Tubelite provided 41,000 sq. ft. of 400TU Therml=Block® series curtainwall. The glass and aluminum system frames the building’s offices and collaborative workspaces. Fargo Glass and Paint Co. also worked with Tubelite to integrate MWEC's name in large metal letters within the façade.
The curtainwall is designed to withstand the Dakota wind and seasonal temperature extremes. Its custom, 8-in.-deep face covers were designed to help with sun control and to meet or exceed stringent energy codes and current LEED criteria.
Complementing the façade, Tubelite provided 400 series curtainwall, E14000 series storefront framing, narrow sStile entrances, and Therml=Block wide stile entrances. A total of 18.2 miles of aluminum weighing about 141,000 lbs. was installed by Fargo Glass.
