Magnetic Analysis Corp.’s chairman, former president dies

Magnetic Analysis Corp., Elmsford, N.Y., has announced the death of William S. Gould III. Gould succeeded his father, a company founder, as president in 1964 and remained in that role until 2007, when he became chairman, a position he held until his death. During his tenure, he built the company from a small U.S.-based nondestructive test designer and manufacturer to its current position as a global provider of NDT eddy current, ultrasonic, and flux leakage systems and services.

“He combined his knowledge of science with a keen understanding of the financial and strategic positioning of the company and a genuine desire to provide an opportunity for each employee to grow to their full potential. The result was not only the successful growth of the business, but also the long-term commitment of countless employees all over the world,” observed his son Robert R. Gould, MAC’s recently elected chairman.

In 2016 Gould was honored by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing for his contributions to the NDT industry through his “knowledge and dedication” for more than 50 years. He held a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Yale, where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.
