A conversation about welding education with the guys behind Weld Labs
Nate Bowman and Rush Kane discuss how they want to rethink the way welders learn
- By Josh Welton
- July 18, 2022
I recently sat down to have a chat with the guys behind Weld Labs. Welders Nate Bowman (aka Weld Scientist) and Rush Kane (Kane Kid) spoke to me about how they went from meeting at FABTECH to building a modernized welding program focused on education, procedure development, and technical support for both trades schools and metal fabrication shops.
Bowman and Kane both said they recognized that the welding industry needed a different approach to delivering resources.
"We realized that the industry needed better welding education," Bowman said. "We are kind of the Swiss Army knife of welding solutions."
Their main focus with Weld Labs is to better correlate the science and techniques of welding into introductory and continuing education levels.
"They really need to mesh and blend," Kane said. "With Weld Labs, we can come in and we can bridge that gap."
Bottom line, they just want to get people excited about welding.
"It's like we want people to learn on accident," Bowman continued. "We not trying to cram a bunch of information down people's throats. The end goal is we want them to be a better welder."
There's a lot more to the discussion, so be sure to watch the full interview above.
