Wiegel Tool Works marks 75 years in business
- January 11, 2017
- News Release
- Bending and Forming
Wiegel Tool Works (WTW) recently held an open house at its plant in Wood Dale, Ill., to mark its 75th anniversary. The event, which included a formal banquet, was attended by more than 400 customers, suppliers, employees and their families, and industry friends.
The company was founded as a tool and die shop in 1941 by Otto and Kathe Wiegel, who had recently immigrated to the U.S. Twenty-five years later, their son Martin took over the family business and expanded its capabilities by adding a metal stamping division, which today is WTW’s core line of business. He also relocated the company to the current headquarters in Wood Dale and made multiple expansions to accommodate rapid business growth. Today the company is owned and operated by the third generation of Wiegels—Aaron, Erica, and Ryan.
Since the third generation assumed business leadership in 2010, the company has expanded into four facilities, made significant investments in technology and equipment, reinvigorated an internship and apprenticeship program, and increased staff from 39 employees to 180.
