- Metals/Materials
Alcan Inc. has announced that Michael Hanley has been appointed executive vice president of the company and is joining the Office of the President. Hanley will retain his responsibilities as president and CEO, Alcan Bauxite and Alumina until a successor is selected. His appointment follows the company's integration of Pechiney and the completion of its spin-off of its rolled products business into an independent company called Novelis.
Based at Alcan's corporate headquarters in Montreal, the Office of the President will include Alcan Inc.'s President and CEO, Travis Engen, and executive vice presidents Richard (Dick) Evans and Hanley. Evans will continue to work with the Engineered Products and Packaging business groups. Hanley will work with Primary Metal as well as Bauxite and Alumina.
Hanley joined the company in 1998 as director of finance for the Bauxite, Alumina, and Chemicals Group in Montreal. He transferred to Cleveland, Ohio in 1999 as vice president and assistant financial controller, Global Fabrication.
In September 2000, Hanley was appointed to the position of vice president, Investor Relations for Alcan Inc. He was appointed as senior vice president of Alcan Inc. and president and CEO of Bauxite and Alumina in January 2002.
Before joining Alcan, Hanley was vice president and CFO with two public companies in the energy and forest products sectors. He is a graduate of the Hautes Etudes Commerciales business school at the Universite de Montreal and is a member of the Quebec Order of Chartered Accountants.
