Desktop Metal wins recognition from Popular Science

Burlington, Mass.-based Desktop Metal has received the Popular Science 2017 Best of What’s New Award in the engineering category for its Desktop Metal Production System™.

According to the company, the system, arriving in 2018, is the first metal 3-D printing system for mass production of complex metal parts that is up to 100 times faster than current laser systems.

Created by the inventors of binder jetting and single-pass inkjet, the system builds metal parts in minutes rather than hours. Using metal injection molding powder, the system delivers high throughput and per-part costs that are competitive with traditional manufacturing processes, the company states.
