The Georgia Manufacturing Alliance (GMA), based in Atlanta, has released its calendar of events for the next two months. These events help promote the manufacturers, products, and people that support the manufacturing community in Georgia.
*2017 Georgia Manufacturing Summit – Oct. 25, Cobb Galleria Center, Atlanta: This third annual event is expected to attract more than 700 manufacturing professionals from a variety of industries. More than 20 industry leaders will address best business practices, health and safety in the workplace, sales and marketing, IT and technology advances, and creating a better bottom line. For more details or to register, visit www.georgiamanufacturingsummit.com.
*Rise Against Hunger – Sept. 12, Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center, Atlanta: APICS Atlanta and GMA have partnered with Rise Against Hunger to conduct a meal-building operation. The target is to pack over 5,000 meals that will be distributed to those in need worldwide. The event will be held from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. For more information, contact Scott Luton at 678-296-5268 or email evp@apicsatlanta.org.
*PowerTech Plant Tour – Sept. 13, West Point: Hyundai PowerTech America is a manufacturer of automotive transmissions for Hyundai and KIA. The 285,078-sq.-ft. production facility has maximized productivity through the application of key advanced manufacturing techniques such as industrial robotics, lean management, and advanced logistics.
*Wheelabrator Plant Tour – Sept. 21, LaGrange: Wheelabrator is a provider of surface preparation technology, offering airblast, wheelblast, and mass finishing systems for the aerospace, automotive, foundry, shipping, construction, and medical industries.
*HON Co. Plant Tour – Sept. 22, Cedartown: The HON Co. manufactures steel and wooden office furniture. While touring the 500,000-sq.-ft. facility, attendees will see manufacturing of individual components and complete furniture, as well as fulfillment operations. The company examines every step in the product life cycle to uncover ways to minimize its footprint, including designing and manufacturing products that incorporate recycled content.
*Advanced RP and Simutech Tour – Sept. 28, Suwanee: Advanced RP is home to the Southeast’s largest 3-D printing demo center showcasing Stratasys and Desktop Metal 3-D printers. Attendees will walk through the entire 3-D printing process from initial concept to the optimized version to the finished printed model. Simutech will provide an overview of its Topology optimization that lets the user specify where supports and loads are located on a volume of material and lets the software find the best shape. This process helps perform light weighting of structures, extract CAD shapes, and verify the optimized design.
*Leggett & Platt Plant Tour – Oct. 5, Monroe: In celebration of Manufacturing Day, the company will open its doors to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering plant tours, refreshments, and guest speakers.
