GM to close five plants, discontinue sedan production

General Motors has announced it will shut production at five facilities in North America as it discontinues six sedans by the end of 2019.

The automaker will close facilities in Detroit; Oshawa, Ont.; Warren, Ohio; White Marsh, Md.; and Warren, Mich. Those plants produce the Chevrolet Volt, Impala, and Cruze; Buick LaCrosse; and Cadillac CT6 and XTS. GM will no longer produce these vehicles, focusing instead on SUVs, crossovers, hatchbacks, trucks, and electric cars.
