Hitachi Rail to open plant in Maryland

Hitachi Rail has announced plans to build a 307,000-sq.-ft. factory in Washington County, Md., that will build rail cars for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

The $70 million project is expected to create 460 direct jobs at the facility. The plant, scheduled to open in winter 2023-2024, will include a production area, warehouse, and main office, as well as an 800-yard test track. It will be able to manufacture up to 20 rail cars per month when fully operational.
