In August hiring rates will increase slightly in the manufacturing and service sectors compared with a year ago, according to the Society for Human Resource Management's (SHRM) Leading Indicators of National Employment (LINE) survey for August 2014.
Payroll expansion will continue in both sectors in August. For the third consecutive month, hiring activity will reach a four-year high for the month in both the manufacturing and service sectors. June and July were strong months for job growth, as indicated in federal surveys as well.
A net of 50.2 percent of manufacturers will add jobs in August (56.3 percent will hire, 6.1 percent will cut jobs). The sector’s hiring index will rise by 0.3 points compared with a year ago. A net of 35.8 percent of service-sector companies will grow payrolls in August (42.2 percent will hire, 6.4 percent will cut jobs). The index will rise by 0.7 points compared with a year ago.
