CNCs made for turning, milling

Siemens has introduced two new versions of its CNC for job shops.
The Sinumerik 828D Basic T is designed for shop floor turning machines. It combines CNC, PLC, operator panel, and axis control for five axes/spindles, including live tooling. This allows milling and drilling operations on a turning machine for face and peripheral surfacing. It has no fans, hard disks, or batteries.
Features include a die-cast magnesium front panel on an IP65 enclosure; 8.4-in. color display; and communications ports in USB, Ethernet, Drive-CLiQ, PLC I/O interface, RS-232 C, and NC inputs/outputs.
In operation, 80-bit nano accuracy provides contour control precision. Intelligent kinematic transformations provide the proper orientation of machining plane to work surface.
The new Sinumerik 828D Basic M class features the same performance as the T class, but for use on milling machines. Mirror-smooth surfacing and reduced machining times are enabled, even in complex mold-making operations, the company says.
