SciAps Z-200 hand-held analyzer differentiates steel, stainless

SciAps has introduced the hand-held Z-200 LIBS analyzer, which it says is the first LIBS unit that differentiates steels and stainless by carbon content and verifies carbon equivalents for weldability of metals.

With this tool, the laboratory technique of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy has been miniaturized into a 4-lb., battery-operated, hand-held unit. The analyzer reports a carbon result, other alloying elements, and carbon equivalents in 5 to 6 sec. It also verifies low-carbon grades of stainless and nickel alloys and analyzes cast irons and cast steels.
