- Laser Cutting
The second international forum on Shipyard Applications of Industrial Lasers (SAIL 2008) will aim to provide the shipyard community and maintenance organizations with current, international laser processes, practices, and equipment. The event will include international trends for laser processing and systems technology related to new ship construction, designs that help maximize the benefits of laser processing, the use of lasers in metrology for shipbuilding, and current and potential applications for laser processing for maintenance and repair activities.
International participation, directed toward the application of laser technology for the marine industry, is intended for anyone involved in shipbuilding, repair, maintenance, and depot activities.
The event, scheduled for Aug. 18 and 19 at the Williamsburg Hospitality House in Williamsburg, Va., is sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, Naval Sea Systems Command, and the Applied Research Laboratory at Pennsylvania State University. It is endorsed by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association (FMA), Rockford, Ill.; the National Shipbuilding Research Program; and the Laser Institute of America (LIA), Orlando, Fla.
