PTA, laser cladding consumables developed for wear protection

Stoody®, an ESAB brand, has introduced a series of new plasma transfer arc (PTA) and laser cladding powders.
The 6030 powder formulations comprise 60 percent tungsten carbide and 40 percent nickel alloy. They form a ductile nickel-chrome alloy matrix with a 30 to 35 HRC. The 6051 powder also offers the 60/40 formulation of tungsten carbide and nickel alloy, but the blends are chromium-free. They provide extreme abrasion resistance with a 48 to 52 HRC. Both powder lines come in three formulations: PLC, with standard and crushed eutectic tungsten carbides; PLS, with spherical tungsten carbides suitable for laser cladding; and PLM, with macrocrystalline tungsten carbides.
A new line of four cobalt-based PTA and laser cladding powders are suitable for advanced welding processes. Stoodite Co01-PL offers abrasive wear resistance, high-temperature hardness, and solid particle erosion wear resistance. Co06-PL produces a medium-hardness deposit for high-temperature applications, with good abrasion, impact, and chemical and mechanical wear resistance. Co12-PL delivers a high-hardness deposit and high-temperature, abrasion, mechanical wear, and corrosion resistance. Co21-PL, a low-carbon austenitic alloy that work-hardens, produces a deposit that offers high-temperature strength and impact resistance, plus antigalling, corrosion, and cavitation resistance.
