Morton Industries installs blast room from Titan Abrasive Systems

Morton Industries, a manufacturer of fabricated tube assemblies, sheet metal fabrications, and enclosures, has added a customized blast room from Titan Abrasive Systems.

The 12- by 12- by 15-ft. blast room features a mechanical recovery system using a “sweep-in” style that requires a pit. Accompanying the room is a 6-cu.-ft. blast machine with pressure-hold remote control and an 8,000-CFM cartridge dust collector.

This purchase allows Morton to bring the blasting process in-house after previously outsourcing product for blasting before it entered painting.

“We wanted to control our own destiny by keeping product within the walls of the company before painting and shipping the final product,” explained Troy Deiss, Morton Industries’ director of operations. “Having a blast room in-house will save four weeks of this projected lead time and has even allowed Morton Industries to quote new work that requires blast prepaint.”

The company is using the blast room primarily to blast engine carrier tubes that are used in the mining and agriculture industry. They are blasted before painting to add a profile/anchor pattern for better paint adhesion.
