Schuler installs two offline spiral pipe mills

Schuler has announced the delivery of two offline spiral pipe mills to Mexico and Saudi Arabia for the production of large pipes with diameters from 20 to 88 in. and lengths of 39 to 80 ft. The pipes are made from high-grade steel with thicknesses up to 1 in. wound onto coils. This is formed into a spiral tube and submerged arc welded to a spiral welded pipe.

The coil preparation stand helps shorten changeover time, increase safety, and provide an exact 90-degree cut at the beginning of the coil, the company states. Crane transfers are not necessary. At the forming station, all relevant steps are automated. Settings are entered directly via the control panel and implemented with the aid of servomotors. The OD or ID calibration system helps ensure reproducible quality.

The mills also comprise devices to test the large pipes in accordance with the API standard, including ultrasonic, X-ray, and hydrotester stands.
