Hey, I’m only 2 degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon
Stamping manufacturer interview provides brush with famous actor
- By Kate Bachman
- May 1, 2019
The universe is a funny thing. Just when you give up on things like fate and karma, the existential happens.
A photographer I hired recently met actor Kevin Bacon a couple of years ago, putting me only 2 degrees away--proving, once again, that we are all no more than 6 degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon.
Commercial/editorial photographer Tom McKenzie of Detroit photographed the “Footloose” actor during a commercial he starred in for the Egg Board. The famous Bacon brother and his not-as-famous Bacon brother were featured in the commercials, because, you know, what complements eggs better than bacon?
McKenzie’s work was used in editorial coverage about the filming and production of the commercial.
I hired McKenzie to photograph presses and stamping operations at Hatch Stamping Co., Chelsea, Mich., for a case study article. (Look for the article, "Stamper singles out servo presses for single-piece redesign" to be published in the May/June issue of STAMPING Journal.
I may have been some degrees from Kevin Bacon before, but never only two! You never know when your opportunity for an indirect brush with Kevin Bacon is going to happen. Mine occurred in Chelsea, Mich., HQ of Hatch Stamping and also home of Jiffy corn muffins and other breakfast food mixes.
Now I’m just waiting for the 15 minutes of fame Andy Warhol promised.
Got thoughts? I’d love to hear from you. kateb@thefabricator.com
