Boomerang Tube LLC purchases Southern Tube LLC

Boomerang Tube LLC, an oil country tubular goods producer in Liberty, Texas, has purchased 100 percent of the ownership interests in Houston-based Southern Tube LLC (STL) from Nippon Steel & Sumikin Oil Field Services Inc. STL now operates as a wholly owned unit of Boomerang Tube.

The acquisition will enable Boomerang Tube to expand its product offering, which now will include seamless tubes and third-party processing of green tube. It also will be able to process overflow production from its 487,000-sq.-ft. plant (37 miles from the STL facility) and, according to the company, increase capacity to produce finished alloy tubes to almost 400,000 tons per year.

Boomerang Tube also can use the STL facility to handle the limited third-party processing of oil country tubular goods, now performed at its current location. The company intends to re-establish the rail siding on STL’s site and offer direct rail shipments to customers.

The 300,000-sq.-ft. STL site includes a Danieli soaking furnace, Olympus ultrasonic inspection, and advanced threading capabilities.
