Zekelman Industries offers employee bonus in wake of steel trade policy changes

Chicago-based Zekelman Industries, an independent steel pipe and tube manufacturer and provider of modular construction technology, has announced that each of its 2,300 employees will receive a $1,000 annual bonus beginning when President Trump's planned steel trade policy changes take effect, for as long as they remain in place.

The Trump administration recently announced plans to levy tariffs on steel and aluminum imports as a result of the Commerce Department’s Section 232 investigation on domestic steel.

In a letter sent to Zekelman employees, Executive Chairman/CEO Barry Zekelman said, “The Section 232 investigation confirmed what we have known for decades: that the domestic steel industry has been victimized by unfairly traded and dumped foreign products and the resulting damage has been both massive and a threat to impair national security.”

Zekelman also noted, “The policies announced today will have a tremendous positive impact on our ability to compete and thrive. The playing field is being levelled and we will win in a fair fight.”

Zekelman Industries includes the operating divisions of Atlas Tube, Picoma, Sharon Tube, Wheatland Tube, Western Tube, and Z Modular.
