Schuler launches spiral pipe mill at Evraz

Germany-based Schuler and Evraz North America have launched a spiral pipe mill at Evraz’s facility in Regina, Sask. Schuler spent three weeks training maintenance staff for software and hardware about the line and its components.

Evraz, a producer of steel products for rail, energy, and industrial end markets, bought and relocated a line to Canada which was already installed in the U.S. To modernize the line, Schuler supplied a coil cart and decoiler, as well as roller beams for the forming station. At the heart of the decoiler are two coil stands, each with two servomotors and proportional valves.

The line will be used to produce spiral pipes measuring 39 to 79 ft. long with diameters from 2 to 5 ft. The pipes will have wall thicknesses of 0.2 to 1 in. and weight up to 26 tons.
