HyCAL Corp. to install hydrogen continuous anneal line for UHSS/AHSS

Detroit-based HyCAL Corp., a division of Ferragon Corp. and formerly Ferrolux-Gibraltar, has begun installation of an Ebner continuous anneal line that will use a blend of hydrogen, rather than water, for strip cooling to produce UHSS/AHSS grades. According to the company, the line—expected to begin running in late 2016—will be the first of its kind in the U.S.

The line will provide 97 percent prime yield and produce dead-flat steel that will not require postanneal processing, the company says.
