FABTECH 2012 panel to analyze impact of election on manufacturing issues
- November 1, 2012
- News Release
- Shop Management
Important tax credits used by manufacturers for equipment purchases, research and development and to keep jobs in the United States may come to an end in a matter of weeks. Bonus Depreciation, the R&D Tax Credit and Section 199 Domestic Production are just a few of the manufacturing tax credits that are set to expire at the end of the year unless renewed by Congress. Which ones will survive? Political insiders representing manufacturing interests in Washington, D.C. will tackle this question and discuss the implications of the elections for manufacturers at the FABTECH exposition, part of the special events planned for FABTECH 2012, November 12 – 14 in Las Vegas.
Post Election Analysis: How the Results Impact U.S. Manufacturing is a can't miss session for FABTECH attendees that will feature Washington insiders Omar Nashashibi, Partner at the Franklin Partnership, LLP and David Goch, Partner at Webster, Chamberlain & Bean. Paul Nathanson, Founding Partner at the Policy Resolution Group at Bracewell & Giuliani LLP, will moderate the session. The panel discussion will take place on November 13 at 12:30 p.m. at the North FABTECH Theater. The session is free and open to all attendees.
The panel will be held only one week after the November 6 elections, and Nashashibi and Goch will analyze the biggest surprises of Election Day, winners and losers and the implications for manufacturers. The panelists also will discuss prospects for the lame duck session of Congress to avoid "Taxmageddon" — the $5.4 trillion in tax increases set to take effect on January 1, 2012 — and "sequestration" — the $1.2 trillion in automatic spending cuts, half of them in defense spending, that will start in January 2013.
"The timing of the post-election panel could not be better," said John Catalano, the show's co-manager. "Make no mistake about it, these elections will have a direct impact on all manufacturers, and these Washington insiders will provide their expert analyses on the future of tax credits and tax reform, and how the elections will impact workforce development initiatives, energy policy, trade enforcement and health-care reform, just to name a few issues."
FABTECH is expected to attract more than 25,000 manufacturers to the Las Vegas Convention Center to view 1,100 exhibits, including live equipment demonstrations covering more than 400,000 net square feet of floor space. Simultaneously, the education program features technical, operational, economic, and managerial sessions where participants will discover solutions to advance their career and their businesses.
FABTECH is co-sponsored by five industry-leading associations: the American Welding Society (AWS), the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International (FMA), the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA), and the Chemical Coaters Association International (CCAI).Complete event information, including a schedule of educational sessions, pricing information and registration is available on the FABTECH 2012 website at www.fabtechexpo.com.
