SHRM LINE: Mixed hiring results expected in November

In November, a net of roughly two-fifths of manufacturers and service-sector companies will add jobs during the month, according to the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) Leading Indicators of National Employment (LINE) survey for November 2015.

In November, the hiring rate will reach a four-year high in the service sector. Also in November, for the seventh month in a row, manufacturing hiring will fall behind the previous year’s rate. The layoff rate also will rise slightly in both sectors compared with November 2014.

A net of 39.9 percent of manufacturers will add jobs in November (49.5 percent will hire, 9.6 percent will cut jobs). The sector’s hiring index will drop by 2.1 points compared with a year ago.

A net of 43.9 percent of service-sector companies will also conduct hiring in November (53.6 percent will add jobs, 9.7 percent will cut jobs). The index will rise by 6.9 points compared with a year ago.
