Gas mixer delivers precise mixture adjustments quickly for laser welding

The latest iteration of Witt’s MEM+ gas mixer offers a choice of seven interfaces to integrate into existing laser welding machines and other equipment using protective or process gases.

Standard interfaces include Analog 4-20 mA, Ethernet, CanBus, and OPC UA, while Profinet, RS232, or Analog 0-10V are optional additions. Remote operation via PC, PLC, or machine controller helps simplify querying, setting, and documenting each parameter. The touchscreen and optimized menu navigation enable quick selection of predefined mixtures.

Electronically operated motorized proportional valves deliver precise mixture adjustments in increments of 0.1%, typically in less than three seconds. The unit covers the entire proportioning range of 0 to 100% with an accuracy of better than ±1% absolute, according to the manufacturer.

Features include pressure equalization to counter gas supply pressure fluctuations, continuous monitoring of inlet pressures, and a potential-free contact to halt the machine in case of problems. A buffer tank handles fluctuating flow rates.
